Dark Blues

July 24, 2014

Since John and I have been moved into our "new" place for a solid 6 months now, I have been excited to make further updates and changes to our interiors.

living room - dark blue
When looking through all of my pins related to interior decor, I noticed a significant pattern... dark blue prevails as one of the bold colors I am most drawn to. Currently, we have a greyish blue sectional, dark blue curtains and a bold patterned rug with hints of dark blue in it. What can I say... sometimes, you are just drawn to a specific hue.

When reading more about the color, I learned that blues make people feel serenity, peace and security. Ironically, these are three things I absolutely want to feel when I am at home. I also draw inspiration from living coastal... the blue sky and the blue ocean always make me feel peaceful, and I love translating that feel into my own home and decor.

To bring this color into our home on a larger scale, I have been considering painting a feature wall somewhere in our main living space. When I was at Ace picking up gold spray paint for a different project in the works, I stopped by to check out the new Clark+Kensington paint. I snagged a few different swatches of dark blue that I loved: Jet Setter (which has a tiny hint of grey), Heirloom China, Air Guitar (the brightest of the blues), Midnight Oil and Dark Diversion. I showed them to John, and his favorite was Heirloom China. I am really loving Midnight Oil, but not sure how dark it will be on a larger wall! Currently, we are waiting to get approval from the landlord to paint, but in the meantime, I am dreaming up how our new living space will look!

  2. Love this post! I'm a big fan of the color Jet Setter! I've been painting as you know and I've been mostly drawn to grey and blue! Grey is such a great neutral!

  3. Love these shades for both a bedroom and living room. I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with these two rooms since we purchase our house months ago I'm just scared of commitment! I also like the way that you incorporated bit of pattern, another thing I fear unless they are strips.
