Meet Maggie. You may have seen her on my instagram! She is our inquisitive, sweet, sometimes needy, loving stray-dog-turned-house-pet. Many times on this blog I share outfits, style inspiration, recipes, etc. Today I thought I would share a special part of my life and tell you the story of how she came to be a part of my family.
It's true, when we lived in Indianapolis (before Los Angeles), I took in a stray, underweight, flea-ridden dog. To be honest, I had no idea what I was getting myself into... and John, too! We already had Novie, (our Jack Russell/Aussie mix). All we knew is that we didn't want this sweet, timid girl to be put into a shelter, or worse, euthanized. I did my homework and was able to get her spayed (she had given birth to puppies not long before we found her), heartworm tested and brought up to date on all her vaccinations. John and I tried the "foster dog" route, where you keep the dog in your home but try to adopt it out to a family. That didn't last long, we knew she had already secured a place in our hearts and was a part of our family. It breaks my heart that someone didn't want this sweet girl... she has nothing but love to give and just wants to please us every day.
Although we don't know the tribulations that Maggie went through in her former life, we do know she has a pretty lavish one, now! Miss Maggie is a California pup and she couldn't be happier. We go on hikes, meet friends at the dog park and she loves swimming in the ocean. Most people have a preconceived notion of Pitbulls, or stray dogs; but I am here to be a walking, living testament that she is one of the coolest dogs I have ever known, and I love her like my child (please tell me some of you relate)!
If you are thinking about adding a four-legged furry baby to your family, please take the time to at least visit a local shelter or animal rescue and meet the dogs there... even just to look. Many of them have so much love to give, and would be incredible additions to any family. Looking for a specific breed? There are many rescues that foster unwanted dogs of a specific breed, too! Mutts are the best- but I may be biased!
PS- How amazing are these black heels?! I am obsessed.
